As a little girl, I can remember making “pinky promises” several times. As my friends and I crossed our little fingers, we would promise to keep each others’ secrets, taking them to the grave with us. For the most part, my friends kept their word, but there were a few times when my confidence was betrayed. It hurts so badly for someone to betray us, and when it happens, it’s so hard to regain that trust.
With age, we come to understand how difficult it is to really trust someone completely. It didn’t take me long to realize that God is the only one that deserves my full trust. No matter what we are going through, we can tell Him how we feel and share our deepest secrets with Him. He can be depended on to listen intently, without judgment or condemnation. He already knows what we are going to say anyway. He knows our heart, but more importantly, He also knows what it’s like to be betrayed.
Maybe you are dealing with a different situation today, such as the loss of a loved one. You may even be dealing with a terminal diagnosis of your own health. Let me encourage you with some of the promises in God’s Word.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV): “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths”.
Psalm 27:14 (KJV): “Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD”.
God’s Word is filled with promises to us for any situation we find ourselves in. He is waiting for us to come to Him, for He knows best what we need. He can give us the strength and the grace we need to get through the trials and struggles of this life.
Wont’ you take God at His word today? He doesn’t make promises that He doesn’t intend to keep.
